Today was the grand finale – skills showcase and graduation – of SEEED Jobs For Life. We had four teams who presented their business concepts which were well-planned and thought out. Congratulations to all our graduates – SIPJ hopes that you have benefited from the programme and wishes you all the best for the future. We will continue to keep in touch for at least the next 6 months to a year so please do keep us posted on your career and other plans!
One of our newest members, Sheela Hari Krishnan, was a staunch volunteer atSEEED before she was even inducted. She had this to share about her experience, “Today I reflected on what I have done that has made a difference this past few months and without a doubt its the SEEEDS Project to empower educate and enable youths to get their dream jobs organised by Soroptimist Club Petaling Jaya and Agensi Inovasi Malaysia. 12 weeks that ended with their graduation last Saturday. Hearing them speak on the impact and change this programme had brought to their lives was all I needed to hear to feel blessed to have volunteered. The chairperson Dato’ Anusha Santhirasthipam was amazing to the end together with SIPJ President Sharon Saw and not forgetting the ladies of SIPJ dedicating and supporting the Project towards its success.
The participants progress showed us that with a little bit of guidance knowledge support and attitude… anyone can change their mindset attitude and empower themselves. Kudos to SIPJ and may we be able to have more such Projects to create a social impact.”
It was really an awesome project.
Below is the President’s welcome speech at the graduation:
Immediate Past President of Soroptimist International South West Pacific, Puan Sri Siew Yong Gnanglingam, Soroptimist National Representative of Malaysia, Joanne Yeoh, Project Lead of SEEED Jobs for Life, Dato’ Anusha Santhirasthipam, Executive Vice President at Agensi Inovasi Malaysia, Mr Eddie Razak, Soroptimist President of Damansara, Kala Subramaniam, Soroptimist sisters, ladies and gentlemen,
On behalf of Soroptimist International Club of Petaling Jaya, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the finale of our 12-Saturday social impact innovation programme entitled SEEED Jobs For Life. SEEED stands for Soroptimists Educate, Empower, Enable Dream Jobs for Life. And that is exactly what we did.
Conceptualised by our SIPJ member Dato’ Anusha Santhirasthipam, this programme of 12 Saturdays was an exciting and empowering programme for youths to succeed in finding their dream vocation! This was a unique opportunity for anyone who was unsure of their career, how to start their business or how to land that job.
Over 3 cycles of 4 Saturdays per cycle, SIPJ brought the best of their experience from their award-winning programmes Youth Against Social Ills (YASI), Supporting Hope in Education (SHINE) and Kampung Ku (KK) to the fore. Through the generosity of expert trainers and coaches, we have provided a comprehensive foundation for the participants of this programme and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who made it happen, several of whom are here with us this morning. Our trainers included our professional ladies from SIPJ, namely Dato’ Anusha, Suria Zainal and Sheela Chandran, and friends of SIPJ.
Thank you all who generously volunteered your priceless time and expert knowledge for this community service project.
The success of this programme is also due to the hardworking SIPJ core team, which of course includes the project lead, Dato’ Anusha, and our keyboard warrior, Joyce Kee, who is also our ICT convenor, Kim Fong, our Immediate Past President and Sharon Wong, our Honorary Treasurer. Thanks also to the SIPJ volunteers who came week after week after week to help and facilitate.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Agensi Inovasi Malaysia, who gave us a seed grant of ringgit malaysia 25000 to carry out this programme. Without this grant, it would have taken us longer to raise funds to execute the project so all the participants who have benefited from SEEED, you can thank AIM for making it happen sooner rather than later.
I would also like to thank SIPJ’s sponsors and supporters who have also contributed to the viability of this project. I would especially like to thank Tropicana Golf & Country Resort for generously co-sponsoring this graduation event.
My heartiest congratulations to all the participants who attended the programme. I hope it has benefited you as much as it has benefited us. And from the feedback that many of you have given us, I am very happy to know that so many of you have been enriched by it and that you have also secured jobs or become more certain of your careers because of it.
On behalf of SIPJ, we wish you all the success in your future careers and we hope that you will keep in touch with SIPJ and let us know how far you go. As we have promised, should any of you need advice in your career development, please do get in touch with us.
I also would like to take this opportunity to especially congratulate Dato’ Anusha for such an amazing programme. She has really put her heart and soul into this from the last quarter of 2014, and despite having suffered a personal loss recently, she soldiered on and ensured that the programme prevailed. I hope that her dedication is a good example to all of the participants of SEEED. May you all be inspired.
