Sharon Wong, our Hon Treasurer, officially launched her inaugural Art Exhibition and Sale at HanaYuzen Japanese Restaurant, Subang Jaya, at 2.30pm on 16 March 2015. She had 31 beautiful works of art on display, with most of them in vibrant acrylic, and some with mixed media. Majority of the subjects were Buddha images – ranging from Shakyamuni Buddha to Kuan Yin to the Laughing Buddha, also known as the Maitreya. She also had paintings of fishes and birds, and also used dried flowers to provide an interesting 3-D effect to several works.
Sharon has been painting for a long time, having earned a degree in scenography, stage design and display design from Musashino Art of University Tokyo, and since she spent five years in Japan, she speaks Japanese fluently! Sharon Wong had also invited her secondary school teacher Mr Yap Hong Ngee as her guest of honour at the opening. It was Mr Yap who taught her to paint Chinese-style paintings.
Ten paintings were sold by the end of the launch day, attesting to the popularity of Sharon’s work. Part of proceeds will be generously donated to SIPJ’s projects by Sharon Wong. Thank you Sharon!
