SPOT

Categories: our work,SPOT

SPOT was conceptualised by Siti Aishah, who is also its project lead. SPOT stands for Soroptimist Puberty Organising Toolkit, and is a nine-hour programme which provides puberty education to Malaysian girls aged 9 to 12. Via PuberTeen talks and activities at primary schools, SPOT aims towards producing informed and confident girls at a crucial point in their lives.

Through knowledge, girls will have a positive attitude towards reproductive health and social development. SPOT activities are designed to address the current situation in Malaysia of increasing rates of underage sexual activities, underage pregnancies, unplanned pregnancies, unsafe abortions and abandonment of babies.

A pioneering SPOT PuberTeen programme was conducted in 2015 and Train-the-trainer programmes developed and conducted. In 2016, the PuberTeen programme has been conducted at three schools and TTT was conducted in Kota Kinabalu for SIKK and soon in Penang for SI Penang.

This programme is particularly in line with Soroptimism as it complements our mission to educate, empower and enable girls.

We are currently seeking volunteer facilitators to participate at these PuberTeen talks. Volunteers are required to attend at least two full-day training and commit to completing at least one entire nine-hour programme at one school.

We are also seeking sponsorship for the programmes. Each programme will cost RM5,000 per school at 50 girls per school. Tax-exempt receipts are available on request.

Please email us at spot@sipj.org if you would like to volunteer or sponsor! We look forward to hearing from you.
