SIPJ was born in 1994 after the idea was set in motion in 1993 by a core of professional and established women, including Dato’ Anusha Santhirasthipam, Datin Tina Subramaniam and Puan Sri Siew Yong Gnanalingam. The Charter President of SIPJ was Datin Tina, with Dato’ Anusha as the Charter Secretary.

The first fund raising dinner organised by SIPJ in 1994 was a glamorous evening, graced by the then Prime Minister’s wife, Y.A.Bhg. Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali. The momentous event raised around RM50,000 which allowed the club to start its community services with donations to Universiti Hospital and Rumah Faith. Long term projects such as the Kampung Ku initiative has spanned a decade and are exemplary of SIPJ’s commitment to long term solutions and partnerships with the less fortunate.

SIPJ has grown since 1994 – members have joined, left or moved away but the undaunting Soroptimisit spirit lives on and is continuously championed by its presidents; past, present and future.

Dear Friends,

Welcome to SIPJ! The power of Soroptimism is in its members. Women are natural nurturers, and combined with professional and other skills, we are able to make a difference in our community to help empower women and girls in all aspects of their lives.

SIPJ provides a platform for women to give their best to make other women’s lives better. We have a great team who are also great friends and we carry out service with the knowledge that we have an opportunity to give back to society.

It is an honour and privilege to work with SIPJ’s sincere and dynamic ladies and we look forward to more members joining us!

Our monthly business meetings are on the third Wednesday of each month, so come and meet us and we will be very happy to share about our ongoing projects.

Yours in soroptimism,

President, SIPJ
